Fashion Fail

Earlier, I ask ya'll if you would like to see looks that I feel didn't work. Some of you expressed an interest in posts of that nature. So here it is "Fashion Fails" by LadyLiddy.
It was raining cats and dogs today! With puddles here and there, I really didn't want to sport any of my nice pairs of shoes going into town. So, I pulled out my old rain boots and looked to see what I had to match. As you can see below they are pink and floral. I pulled out my next to only pink top in the closet. Here's the less than successful results.

There are a hand full of things that I felt went very wrong with this look. First, the button-up is too big (not too loose, just to great in volume) making me look a little boxy. It might would've helped if I had tied the bottom of the button-up to reveal the bottom of the yellow knit underneath, giving me a little more waist(fixing the boxy problem). Secondly, I tied the scarf up too high. It might have balanced the look better if more scarf was showing.
The darker jeans aren't too bad off a choice, but I do feel it would have complemented the scheme of colors better if I had worn a lighter denim.
Lastly I should have worn make-up, and not relied on yesterday's eyeliner to carry me through.
So now you know (if you haven't noticed already ;P) This lady isn't a perfect fashionista!

New Handmade Jumper Skirt!

It's been a long while since I've made a jumper skirt. So, I've decided to brake the silence of my sewing machine with a new project.
This JSK is inspired by: my German/Dutch roots and the brand Juliette et Justine.
The sewing pattern for this dress was 100% created and designed by me. If ya'll are interested in how I make my patterns, let me know by commenting below.

The bodice is made of velvet and the skirting is a cotton polyester mix. Lace was purchased at Hobby Lobby. Under the dress are two Malco Mode petticoats.

If you'd like to see all the different ways I would coordinate this dress comment below!

How I Coordinate My Outfits

1) Arm Myself With Inspiration!
Before Pinterest (so hard to imagine that right now), I was what you would call an image hoarder. I kept a folders of printed photos and torn magazine pages. For that month I'd pick a couple of my favorites to draw inspiration from.
Today I still use my style file, but not quiet as much as I make use of Pinterest. I have a hand full of style boards, most separated by aesthetic.
I don't always have to refer to an image to create a look, but if I'm starving for ideas it sure does come in handy.

If you'd like to check out my Pins, take a look at this post here.

A theme can be inspired by just about anything: A character, different time periods, an image, a season, a scheme of colors... and the list goes on.
If you have a theme it creates a more interesting outfit. It also makes it a little more clear what you're looking for when searching through your closet.

5) Lay it Out
After I pick all the possible pieces I might use for the look, I lay it out on my bed. I might have a skirt or two, a dress, different necklaces and broaches. I even pull out possible shoes and socks.
Then I start matching things ups. Examining if colors work, texture compliment each other, and the over all style is coming across(or something better).

6) Examine Again
Once I have my chosen coordinate on I ask myself:
-Is it proportioned well? (Shirt too long for the skirt paired with it? Or does the hem comes to an awkward length where I need to ditch the flats and get some heels?)
-Is it flattering?
-Am I trying too hard with the layering? (Example: Wearing a plain T-shirt under a crisp cotton jumper)
-Is there a piece throwing the whole look off? It needs to go!

If one of these are true, I go back to the pile of possible pieces on my bead and try something else till it works.

7) Be Brave
Put current trends aside. Forget what everyone else is wearing! Dress for yourself even if a couple of people poke fun. I'm sure somewhere deep down inside they wish to have the same bravery.

For me fashion is fun and experimental. Sometimes I make awesome coordinate, and others times I fall short of success. In the end I tried something new. Who's knows? That failed outfit  might spring on a fantastic new!

If you'd like to se how I physically apply these principles check out the video blow.

Thrifted & Vintage Jewelry Collection

Quiet a bit I get asked, "How do you find such unique accessories?" My to go to places for jewelry are forever 21 and secondhand stores. Both are affordable and carry a wide variety of styles. My favorite of these two has to be secondhand stores! Where you most likely will have to do some digging, but they sell any where from new to very old.
I love the collection I've obtained over the years!
I love browsing through other ladies' collections! It's some silly girl thing I suppose. I like to admire and get inspiration for my own wardrobe.
With all this being said, I thought ya'll might like to view my vintage/thrifted collection. The best part of this collection is that most of these pieces didn't cost above $5!

Here are most of my favorite pieces!

(necklace on the left) My mom found this for me at the goodwill for $4!(on the right) Estate sale $4
Also from the Goodwill $3. I adore this looking glass!
A gift from a former boss!

All of these were $5 and under. Where they came from... different second hand stores, garage sales, and Goodwill.

If you enjoyed this post and would like to see more like it,(my vintage hat collection, vests of skirts, forever 21 jewelry...) Comment below or on my face book and I'll make it the next post!
